But all-round wellness in the kitchen doesn’t stop at the right diet; it includes ecological aspects as well. And yet the issue of energy consumption in relation to white goods is by no means new. For years now, the energy efficiency rating has been playing a decisive role in the purchase of cookers, refrigerators and dishwashers. Classifications like A+++ are even prompting thoughts of revising the rating system. Nevertheless, power consumption is by no means the only criterion for a “Green Kitchen”. Which raises the question: When is a product genuinely eco-friendly? For truly “green” design is concerned with the comprehensive sustainability of products, and that means taking a holistic approach. The global trend relies on lifestyle and ecological responsibility in equal measure. The goal is to achieve a combination of quality, convenience, design and ecology. The days when the eco look was equated with pinewood and textile wallpaper are long gone.
